By Experience My India Editorial Team
Destination specialists and licensed local guides
A guide is the single biggest variable in an India trip. Experience My India works with a panel of local guides across the country — people from the places they show you — who are checked before they meet a traveller and described only by what can be proven: the places they work, the languages they speak, and the tours they actually lead.
Not a directory of names
A guide is telling you about the place they grew up in, not reading from a script — and that first-hand knowledge is the difference between understanding a place and nodding politely at it for six hours. Our panel of 500+ local, third-generation guides across the country works this way: real people, described only by what we can check, checked before they meet a traveller.
Why a local guide changes the trip
- First-hand, not researched — a guide telling you about the city they grew up in.
- They know when, not just where — the hour the light is right, the day the temple is impossible.
- The turning you would have missed — the courtyard behind the gate, the workshop still working.
- A voice you can follow — guided in your own language, not nodded through.
- Someone who is accountable — a named person, known to us, not a badge and a phone number.
How we select our guides
Local first
We look for guides from the destination itself, often families who have shown visitors their region for generations.
Checked before they meet you
Every guide is checked for reliability and conduct before reaching a trip, to the same standard as the stays and vehicles on the same itinerary.
Reviewed trip by trip
Guides are reviewed against real traveller feedback after departures, not signed off once. Anyone who stops meeting the standard stops being offered.
Described only by what we can prove
A profile carries what can be checked — the places they work, the languages they speak, the tours they actually lead. Where a guide holds a formal licence, it is shown and named; where they do not, we say experienced, because that is what is true.
Choosing a guide
Guides on our panel work across destinations including Agra, Varanasi, Rajasthan, Kerala, Kashmir, Ladakh, Rishikesh and Tamil Nadu, and cover specialities from heritage and monuments to pilgrimage, food, wildlife, culture and wellness, in languages including English, Hindi, French, Spanish, German, Italian, Japanese and Russian, depending on availability for your dates.
Frequently asked questions
Are your guides licensed?
Where a guide holds a genuine, verified government licence, we say so and name the number. Otherwise we describe them as experienced local guides, because that is the honest and accurate description — we do not use the word 'licensed' unless it is verified.
Can I request a guide in a specific language?
Yes — tell us the language you want to be guided in and your destination, and we match you with someone from our panel, subject to availability for your dates.
Is a guide already included in tour packages?
Yes, in each city or region a package covers, a local guide is part of the standard inclusions.
What happens if there's an issue with a guide during my trip?
You have a named, known person to raise it with directly, and we follow up — this accountability is a large part of why we vet guides before a trip rather than after.
