Rann of Kutch Travel Guide

The Rann of Kutch is one of the world's largest salt deserts, flooding with the monsoon and drying by winter into a vast white expanse that stretches to the horizon, especially striking under a full moon. Around it, the Kutch region's villages are known for embroidery, block printing and other crafts, adding a cultural layer to the landscape itself.

Each winter, Gujarat Tourism sets up a tented festival, the Rann Utsav, on the edge of the white desert, with cultural performances, craft stalls and organised access to the salt flats. It is the easiest and most established way to experience the Rann, running roughly across the winter season on dates confirmed each year.

November to February, when the salt desert has dried out and the Rann Utsav festival is running. Given the driving distances from Ahmedabad, two to three days is a realistic minimum to see the Rann properly alongside the surrounding villages.
