Ajanta and Ellora, despite both being reachable from Aurangabad, are large enough sites that combining them into one day means rushing both; we plan them as two separate days where time allows.

October to March is the best window for day trips across north India — cooler temperatures make the car time and walking at sites more comfortable. April to June is intensely hot in Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan; July to September brings monsoon rain that can slow road travel.
