Pickup
We collect you from your hotel in Bir or the wider Kangra valley and transfer you towards the take-off site.
Transfer up to Billing
A shared vehicle takes you up the hill road to the take-off ground above Billing village, where pilots and gliders are already gathering.
Harnessing and briefing
Your pilot fits your harness and helmet and gives a short briefing on what to expect during take-off, the flight and landing.
Take-off and flight
You run a short distance with your pilot as the glider fills with air, then lift off; the flight itself typically lasts fifteen to thirty minutes, weather and thermals permitting, with longer flights sometimes possible on request.
Landing at Bir
The flight ends with a landing on the designated field in Bir village, where your transfer is waiting.
Return
You are driven back to your hotel once you have landed and collected your things.
Bir Billing takes its name from the two villages that give the sport its take-off and landing points: Billing, high on the ridge above, and Bir, in the valley below. The site is regularly ranked among the best paragliding destinations in the world, thanks to reliable thermals, a long flying season and a high take-off point with sweeping views over the Kangra valley and the Dhauladhar range.
Every flight offered to visitors is tandem, meaning you fly harnessed to a certified pilot who controls the glider throughout; you are a passenger rather than a student, so no training or previous flying experience is required.
Good for
Standard operator restrictions apply — pregnancy, heart conditions and certain back or neck issues typically rule this out; final eligibility is confirmed by the operator on the day, and flights are grounded on the operator's judgement if wind or weather conditions are not within safe limits.
- Wear closed-toe shoes and comfortable, layered clothing — the take-off point at Billing sits considerably higher and cooler than Bir village below.
- Avoid loose scarves or jewellery that could catch on the harness.
- Carry a photo ID and your booking confirmation.
- If flights are cancelled or delayed due to wind or weather, that is a normal safety decision rather than a sign of a poorly run operation — build a spare day into your itinerary if paragliding is a priority for your trip.
Best season and starting point
The main flying season runs March to June and September to November, when winds and thermals are most reliable; the July-August monsoon is largely unsuitable for flying. Meeting point is your hotel in Bir or nearby, with a vehicle transfer up to the Billing take-off site included as part of the activity.
Do I need previous paragliding experience?
No. All visitor flights are tandem, with a certified pilot controlling the glider throughout — you are a passenger rather than a student pilot.
What is the best time of year to paraglide at Bir Billing?
March to June and September to November are the main flying seasons, either side of the July-August monsoon, when conditions are largely unsuitable for flying.
How long does a flight last?
A standard tandem flight typically lasts around fifteen to thirty minutes, depending on wind and thermal conditions on the day; longer flights can sometimes be arranged on request.
Is it safe?
Flights are flown by certified pilots using standard tandem paragliding equipment, and are grounded on the operator's judgement if wind or weather conditions are not within safe limits on the day. Standard health restrictions apply, as with any activity involving a harness, and these are confirmed with you before you fly.
What happens if my flight is cancelled due to weather?
If the operator cancels for safety reasons, you are normally offered a reschedule for another day of your trip; we handle this with the operator directly if it happens.

3/54 days agoMixed feelings. The sites were spectacular and the driver excellent, but our guide's English was harder to follow than we expected and we missed some of the detail. The office apologised quickly when we mentioned it.

4/51 month agoWell run and good value. The tea stop was a highlight and the guide's recommendations for dinner were excellent. Traffic getting back into the city was rough, but that is hardly their fault.

5/52 months agoWe had a wheelchair user in our group and the team planned every stop around step-free routes without us having to chase. That level of care is rare. Highly recommended for families.

4/52 months agoVery good day out. Guide was knowledgeable and the driver excellent. The only reason it is not five stars is that the lunch break felt too long when we would rather have seen one more site.
