The Deccan Odyssey
- Private tour
- We check live cabin availability before you commit
- Reply within four hours, 9am–9pm IST
- No payment to start planning
- Coastal stops can be humid even outside monsoon; light layers work best.
- Travellers whose interest is Maharashtra and Goa rather than the Rajasthan-Delhi-Agra circuit the other trains cover, and who want a slower, scenic way to link the region's coast and heritage sites.
- Different route themes have run in different seasons — coastal, heritage and wildlife-oriented circuits among them — so the exact itinerary depends on which route is currently scheduled.
- Confirm which specific route is scheduled for your dates before booking, since the Deccan Odyssey has run more than one circuit theme over the years.

Board at the scheduled origin
Typically Mumbai, depending on the season's route.
Coastal and heritage stops
Guided excursions to forts, temples or coastal towns are built into each stop along the route.
Onboard time
Dining car, lounge and cabin time between stops, in the same slow-travel style as India's other luxury trains.
Return
The loop closes back at the departure point, typically after seven to eight days.
The Deccan Odyssey is a Maharashtra Tourism initiative that fills the gap the northern trains leave: a luxury rail circuit through the Deccan plateau, the Konkan coast and Goa, taking in Maratha-era forts, coastal towns, temple heritage and, on some routes, wildlife stops.

- This is the practical choice if Maharashtra and Goa, rather than Rajasthan, are your priority.
Best season and starting point
Typically seven to eight days depending on the route running that season. Departures run in a winter-to-spring season, broadly October to April, avoiding the region's monsoon.
Where does the Deccan Odyssey go?
Routes across Maharashtra and Goa, which have included coastal, heritage and wildlife-themed circuits in different seasons — we confirm the current route and stops once we know your dates.
How does it compare to the Golden Chariot?
The Deccan Odyssey covers Maharashtra and Goa; the Golden Chariot covers Karnataka and South India further south. Choose based on the region you want, not just the train.
What is the fare?
Set by the operator and confirmed on enquiry once we have your dates and cabin preference; we do not publish a figure here.

5/51 week agoEverything ran like clockwork. Confirmation within an hour, a named driver with a photo the day before, and a guide who genuinely loved his city. We rebooked with them for the second half of our trip.

4/51 month agoA smooth, well-thought-out trip. The hotels were lovely, the driving was long some days, and one stretch of road was tiring — but they warned us about that, and the stops along the way made it bearable.

3/52 months agoMixed feelings. The sites were spectacular and the driver excellent, but our guide's English was harder to follow than we expected and we missed some of the detail. The office apologised quickly when we mentioned it.

4/53 months agoVery good day out. Guide was knowledgeable and the driver excellent. The only reason it is not five stars is that the lunch break felt too long when we would rather have seen one more site.
