Ordinarily closed after sunset, the Taj Mahal is opened for night viewing on a restricted schedule: the full moon night and two nights either side, five nights each month, excluding Fridays and the entire month of Ramzan. Viewing is by timed batch with a capped number of visitors, seen from a distance rather than close up at the monument itself, and it is genuinely different from a daytime visit — the white marble takes on a distinct glow under moonlight.
Because of the quota and the advance paperwork the ASI requires, this is one of the few experiences on the site where booking lead time is not flexible — we need your dates as early as possible.

How far ahead do we need to book?
As early as possible once your travel dates are set — the ASI's process typically requires at least 24 to 48 hours' advance booking, and popular dates within the five-night window fill up before that.
Can we also visit during the day?
Yes, but it is booked and visited separately from the night viewing — most couples do both, a daytime visit for the interior and detail, and the night viewing for the moonlit spectacle.
Is the viewing up close or from a distance?
Night viewing is typically from a set distance rather than close to the monument itself — we confirm the exact current setup when we book.
