Jeep safaris by range
A pre-dawn or morning drive and an afternoon drive, each confined to one of the park's ranges, with wide views across grassland and wetland rather than dense forest tracks.
Elephant-back safaris, seasonally
Some ranges have historically offered a short elephant-back safari at dawn, alongside the jeep safari, though availability and format can change; we confirm what is currently on offer when booking.
Permits booked ahead
Range permits are booked through Assam's forest department system in advance, and we handle this alongside your accommodation and transfers.
The drive itself
Long views across open grassland, with a strong chance of seeing rhino, wild buffalo and elephant, and birdlife across the wetlands; a tiger sighting here is a genuine bonus rather than the expectation.
Kaziranga sits on the southern floodplain of the Brahmaputra river in Assam, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known chiefly as the stronghold of the greater one-horned rhinoceros. The tall elephant grass and shallow wetlands that make up much of the park also support wild water buffalo, swamp deer, wild elephant herds, and tigers, though the rhino remains the animal most people come for.
The park is managed as several separate ranges rather than a single circuit — Kohora (Central), Bagori (Western) and Agaratoli (Eastern) among the main ones — each with its own permit and its own character of grassland and wetland.
Good for
Because the Brahmaputra floods the park during the monsoon, this is not a year-round destination in the way some other reserves loosely are — plan around its specific open season.

Guwahati is the main gateway airport, with Jorhat a closer regional option; your naturalist meets you at your lodge near the park.
What makes Kaziranga different from a tiger safari?
The signature species here is the greater one-horned rhinoceros, alongside wild elephants and buffalo across open floodplain grassland — a different landscape and different focus from the forest-based tiger parks, though tigers are present.
Can I still see a tiger at Kaziranga?
Kaziranga has tigers and holds Tiger Reserve status, but sightings are considerably less common than the rhino, elephant or buffalo you are more likely to see across the grasslands.
Is an elephant-back safari available?
Some ranges have offered a short elephant-back safari seasonally alongside jeep safaris, though this can change; we confirm what is currently running when we book your permits.
How do I get to Kaziranga?
