Mount Abu, Rajasthan: what to see
Founder, Experience My India · IIT Jodhpur
Mount Abu is Rajasthan's only hill station, cool relief from the desert heat, best known for the marble-carved Dilwara Jain temples, boating on Nakki Lake and the state's highest point at Guru Shikhar. A day covers the highlights; two lets you add the wildlife sanctuary and a proper sunset at Sunset Point.
A note on our photographs
Our image library does not yet include a Mount Abu-specific photograph, so the images on this page are of Rajasthan more broadly — we'd rather say that plainly than caption the wrong place.
Dilwara Jain temples
Intricately carved white-marble Jain temples, among India's finest examples of marble carving. Photography is generally restricted inside — confirm the current rule on arrival.
Nakki Lake
The town's boating lake, with a walkable promenade around it. Local legend holds it was scooped out by gods' nails ('nakh').
Guru Shikhar
Rajasthan's highest point, a short drive above the town, with a temple at the summit and wide views over the Aravalli range.
Sunset Point
The town's popular evening viewpoint over the Aravallis — arrive early in season to get a clear spot.
Mount Abu Wildlife Sanctuary
Forested hills wrap around the town; the sanctuary is worth a half-day for travellers with time to spare beyond the main sights.
How much time to give it
A day covers Dilwara, Nakki Lake and Sunset Point comfortably. Two days lets you add Guru Shikhar and the wildlife sanctuary at an easier pace.
