Tso Moriri Travel Guide: Ladakh's Remote High-Altitude Lake

Tso Moriri is one of Ladakh's remote high-altitude lakes, quieter and further off the main circuit than Pangong. It is usually paired with nearby Hanle, known for some of India's darkest skies, for travellers going beyond the crowds.

Add two or three days beyond the classic Leh-Nubra-Pangong week to reach Tso Moriri and Hanle without rushing.

May to September is the season. Tso Moriri and Hanle are restricted areas and need a permit — a Protected Area Permit for foreign visitors, an Inner Line Permit or environmental fee for Indian travellers.

Tso Moriri is reached by road from Leh, further and higher than the main Nubra-Pangong loop, so it suits travellers with extra days and who are already acclimatised.
