Ranthambore Travel Guide: Rajasthan's Tiger Reserve

Ranthambore is a tiger reserve and former royal hunting ground, and it is what most people mean when they talk about wildlife and safaris in Rajasthan. It is one of the additions that makes a two-week Rajasthan trip different from a tight week: alongside Pushkar or a desert night in Jaisalmer, it is named as the reason to extend beyond the core Jaipur-Jodhpur-Jaisalmer-Udaipur loop.

Ranthambore National Park is built around Ranthambore Fort, a hilltop Rajput fort inside the reserve that gives the park its name, so a visit here still carries the same fort heritage as the rest of the state, alongside the tigers themselves.

One to two nights is the suggested stay, enough for two or three safari drives across different zones without it dominating a wider Rajasthan itinerary.

Ranthambore sits off the main Jaipur-Jodhpur-Jaisalmer-Udaipur loop, and is typically added as a detour or extension when you have the extra days rather than folded into a tight first week. It is usually reached by road from Jaipur.
