This two-day itinerary covers the core Krishna pilgrimage circuit near Mathura — Vrindavan's temples, the Goverdhan parikrama route and Barsana, birthplace of Radha — as a private trip from Delhi or Agra.
Mathura, Vrindavan, Goverdhan and Barsana
Mathura and Vrindavan, Krishna's traditional birthplace and childhood home, sit close together with Goverdhan and Barsana nearby — the wider Braj region's core pilgrimage sites. This two-day plan is a private tour by car, easily combined with a Delhi or Agra trip since both are within about 2–3 hours' drive.
Is this tour suitable as a day trip from Delhi?
It can be compressed to a long single day covering Mathura and Vrindavan only, but Goverdhan and Barsana are more comfortable with the overnight this two-day version includes.
What is the best time to visit for Holi in Vrindavan?
Vrindavan's Holi celebrations, especially at the Banke Bihari and ISKCON temples, run for several days around the main Holi date and are extremely crowded — book well ahead if that is your target date.
Are these sites within walking distance of each other?
No — Mathura and Vrindavan are close (about 15 minutes apart), but Goverdhan and Barsana are each a further 30–45 minutes' drive, which is why a private car makes sense for this circuit.

5/51 week agoOur guide grew up in the old town and it showed. We got the version of the city locals see, not the coach-tour one. He also found us a wonderful sweet shop that has ruined all other sweets for me.

4/51 month agoReally enjoyable day. The guide was knowledgeable and funny. It did run about forty minutes over, which mattered because we had a train to catch, but they got us there with minutes to spare.

5/51 month agoDriver was a gem — patient, careful on the highway, and he pulled over for every photo request without a sigh. The car was comfortable and the air conditioning actually worked, which is not a given.

3/52 months agoMixed feelings. The sites were spectacular and the driver excellent, but our guide's English was harder to follow than we expected and we missed some of the detail. The office apologised quickly when we mentioned it.
